    Trump goes to the doctor.
Apparently, in a break from procedure, instead of helicoptering in, he traveled by car. Various rumors are swirling as to why this might be.

Oh, wait, that only works for Hillary.

I say this as an obvious partisan but...she's not.

At VERY best reading she's maybe equally likely as Biden in a neutral environment but the establishment passion to nominate anyone but Warren or Sanders is MASSIVE - it's not a neutral environment. If the other leader were, say, Michael Bennet - or if Patrick had gotten in months ago and offered a solid centrist alternative then Warren would be to that person as Sanders was to Hillary - an insurgent but with so VERY much institutional inertia employed against her. Biden just happens to be really shaky, which gives her a chance to thread the needle while the power players are trying to decide whether they can prop him up or, alternately, sell Pete to black voters, OR panic and try to leverage someone like Patrick into the nomination. That... "Dems in disaray" to borrow a cliche ...give her an opening but it's by nomeans a frontrunner situation.

Iowa will be Warren or Pete
NH will be Warren or Sanders
NV could be any of Warren, Biden, or Sanders
SC will surely be Biden (and right now Pete looks weak in both NV and SC)

If Warren wins both the first two, she's at least a co-leader if not the frontrunner going into ST. If she loses both she might not be able to recover. If she splits them, everything is a mess but I still think Pete goes into ST as the obvious 4th place candidate and in danger of being pushed out.

My hunch is that if either Bernie or Warren is significantly behind the other (in delegates) by mid-March - if the trailing candidate drops and puts all their effort behind the other, they can still win. But if they keep splitting the progressive vote into April there will not be anyone going to the convention with enough to win on the first ballot and it will be chaos.

I had worked out the pattern in the past, but as I recall, it's something like the average winning Democratic Presidential nominee takes either IA or NH (but not necessarily both) and SC. You'll note that Bloomberg is planning on injecting himself into the SC primary. This far out, I'm not making guesses as to anything other than Bloomberg's objective is to cripple Sanders and Warren.

I hope not because that's stupid. He won't peel ONE vote from either - i mean truth is he likely won't get any to speak of at all but if he got any it will come out of the centrist lane. BUT I don't think there's any real chance he even runs - he'll have as much problem with minorities as Pete, there's all kinds of shit from his time as NY mayor that will piss off black voters, particularly the activists. That's why I think he's the money behind Deval Patrick.

Still, even if Patrick (as Bloomberg pawn) manages to get traction, it comes right out of the Biden/Pete/Klobachar lane, which actually helps Warren/Bernie.

and by "I hope not" I mean objectively, as a partisan with a bias, I sincerely hope they ARE that stupid.

Again, Bloomberg isn't trying to win, he's just trying to ensure that Trump doesn't lose, knowing that once Trump gets removed from office, Pence will be far more pliable. By targeting SC, Bloomberg is swamping the key state in the Dem primaries. If he can keep Sanders or Warren (or Biden, if he's still in) from coming out of the primary with a clear majority then he hopes to hamstring whomever might have otherwise taken the lead so that they're less likely to beat Trump or Pence.

The logic being that if Trump wins, he'll be impeached (assuming he's not before the election), and that Pence will be little more than a Gerald Ford who can be largely slapped around by the Dems until the establishment folks can find someone to run that they like.

This, however, has a huge chance of backfiring on Bloomberg. A heated contest between Bloomberg and Warren or Bloomberg and Sanders will grab lots of headlines and is unlikely to paint Bloomberg in a positive light (while Warren and/or Sanders will be able to milk it for all their worth if they're savvy enough) and thus ensure that Trump loses. Maybe Bloomberg is smart enough to know that he's handing Warren and Sanders a golden opportunity to not only clinch the nomination but attraction both many of the folks who voted for Trump, but also the millions who didn't vote in 2016, but I doubt it.

Bloomberg certainly doesn’t want to win, or he wouldn’t be adopting the same method that Giuliani did.

People say Pence would be worse, but I don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’d probably do terrible things regarding the LBGTQ community, but over all, I don’t think he’d be as bad as Trump.
