Same here, this will be the first Trek movie since ST:TFF that I don't have any more info on the movie other that what I've seen in the trailers.

You're comparing modern Star Trek to a THIRD SEASON episode of the original series where the show was dead man walking and the production budget had been cut to the bone?

    WTF!!!

After Into Shitness I was going to simply not see this. But the word on teh grapevine is that it's closer to traditional Star Trek then the previous two JJ movies, so I'm now in two minds about it.

The SFX coverage makes me more interested. It seems production was a total clusterfuck, but they took it as a challenge on set; improvising dialogue, story and even whole scenes. That could be gold, or it very much could go spectacularly wrong, but it does at least make me more curious to find out.

Jeff Bezos plays Starfleet official in new movie

Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk in the film, said he didn't know who the 52-year-old was but it was 'obvious he was very important'.

'I was there for the bit with his like nine bodyguards and three limos. It was really intense,' Pine said.

'I had no idea who he was. Not a clue. But he was obviously very important.'

Bezos is a lifelong fan of the beloved science fiction series, revealing earlier this year he used to play Star Trek with his friends as a child.

'When I was in fourth grade, we would — me and my friends Dean and Kyle, who lived next door, a couple houses down in Houston, Texas — play Star Trek almost every day,' he told the Transformers conference.

He bought the movie Enterprise and has it on open display at the Blue Origin offices.

What is so great about that? Every Enterprise since the original has had that capability.

    1) I said it was interesting, not great
    2) Maybe people like it when the saucer separates, as it's a pretty cool feature regardless of which Enterprise employs it
    3) At this point you just sound like a bitter, angry old man

    I disagree with 1) & 2)

I have no problem with 3) though.

I saw something (either in one of the trailers or a clip) that indicated that the movie shows that happening.

Fuck. I had really hoped they'd let the thing rest with #3, let the TV guys take over for good.

Never going to happen. With the TV and movie rights being split between CBS and Paramount respectively, each one will keep churning stuff out until their product isn't well received.

The only real threat is if they can't get the cast back together.

What kind of Enterprise do they replace the Abramsprise with after it gets destroyed early in the movie?

    Oh great.

What is this obsession with copying elements of the Akira design anyway?

It wasn't that cool looking. Ever

I think he's referring to the Franklin, a different ship that appears in the movie.

While I've enjoyed the new Trek movies, I never have liked the look of the new Enterprise and I'm hoping that destroying it means that there will be a better-looking one in the next film.
