The 5% of people shot by Chicago cops aren't some random sampling of innocent people, they are overwhelmingly people who have a weapon drawn and are in the middle of killing innocent people, or momentarily in between killings.

Sometimes the cops fuck up, and during the time where you might have a dozen unjustified police shootings, and the killing of three or four completely innocent people by cops, you'd have racked up several thousand blacks murdered by the thugs the cops are trying to stop.

The only way they can be punitive is within the framework of his contract, and there isn't a sitting down during the national anthem clause. They'd be idiots to arbitrarily come down on him hard.

I would be surprised if there wasn't a clause on reputation or needing to maintain good public relations, etc... Sports stars are entertainers and like any other celebrities spokesman thry become tainted when the public becomes upset at them. That is usually reflected some where in those giant contracts.

Most contracts will have a clause relating to behaviour that brings an employer into disrepute, but generally that would be conduct unbecoming a professional. However, whether or not this is an action that amounts to such conduct so is highly debatable given that the man is excercising his constitutional rights. Furthermore, his employer has supported him in this regard and does not seem to consider it a breach of any contractual obligations. Contracts obviously do not come with clauses to the effect of "if the public gets into a hissy fit you're out".

He's bitching about persecution of others, not himself, so the color of his parents' skin is pretty irrelevant. As for the color of the President's skin, the fact that you think that erases anything else that might happen in our society is pretty naïve.

Exactly. Athlete contracts typically have morals clauses in them, but that definitely wouldn't apply to this situation.


BTW, at least one other NFL player (from a different team, though I don't recall which one) said this week that he's going to join Kaepernick's protest.
