100 quatloos says this is a problem we'll get to see repeated nationwide under Barry O's health care plan.

But it was most certainly an expected outcome. That you didn't expect it means you're not qualified to be making policy, Dr. Fink.

I think universal health care is a terrible idea, but I can't help but be saddened by the greedy fucks that took advantage of this program and ruined it for those who may have needed it.

Greedy fucks are a fact of life. You do not make policy that pretends they don't exist.

This is what the Europeans don't understand. Universal health care works (somewhat) there, but this is America.....knee deep in lazy, cunning, irresponsible, sneaky fuckers who who will find a way to work the system every time....it's what we do.

Some people are in denial. And yes, those people should not be making policies, especially in regard to what they are in denial about.

Then again, this could serve as an object lesson to require better screening so that greedy yahoos like the ones in the article don't slip through.

The kind of high-quality screening that takes place with all of our other social welfare programs?

I'm just wondering why anyone would ever have thought that poor people who scrimped to save to buy insurance for their children wouldn't try to take advantage of a universal child insurance program. I also wonder why people would think it's wrong for people to try to move from private to public insurance for their kids when public became available. Why would anyone have thought that only parents who wasted their money on a new HDTV rather than insurance for their children should be eligible for this new government benefit?

You don't already understand why it's wrong to take advantage of generosity when you were able to provide for yourself?

If you pay taxes, then it shouldn't be. Unless you're arguing public schools is taking advantage of generosity.

They probably didn't raise taxes to cover the system ('cause it's an election year, natch), and it doesn't help that they let EVERYONE in.

Unless your contribution to the tax fund set aside for that purpose is equivalent to the cost of educating your child, that's exactly what it is. And forced generosity at that. But making it comparable to this story would mean someone living in a community where tax-funded schools suddenly came into existence who could afford a private institution but decided to move their kid to public school to save money.

Yep. It isn't that I am chastising the people who switched to public health care. You'd have to just enjoy throwing money away to pay taxes for something and then pay MORE to not use it.

What I think this proves is that a universal health care system is categorically unworkable. Despite Aurora's "Sick kids, yay!" nonsense, no one wants to see children become ill. The issue is how one pays for the health care. And the answer is NOT just giving everyone free money for their doctor visits, it's working to ensure that medical costs aren't so prohibitive anymore.

If you want health care to be less expensive, kill all the fucking sue-happy lawyers, then kill the drug industry lobbyists who recruit Uncle Sam to enforce their price-fixing schemes.

Oh yeah? Why is that? Because it won't be administered by government bureaucracy, or because you think it'll be different from all other government bureaucracies?

I'm being generous and treating you like an adult here, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let this thread go twenty fucking pages before you answer my question. I gave you options. All you have to do is pick one, or come up with a third on your own.

The proposed Obama health reform is not a government bureaucracy. Your question is N/A.

well, I love all the Lefties who are going to regulate human nature out the equation. Bottom line is you offer free shit to people they'll take it regardless. No amount of "oversight" or "screening" will stop that. It will just triple the cost of the program as bureaucrats are added to the rosters in ever increasing numbers.
