It is nice how this is legal but soon we will be arrested if we flip[ that and criticize Isreal because that country is punishuing americans through the US government for having the nerve to criticize them.

I'd ask if we were all cool with allowing LGBTQ+ folks being granted immediate asylum in the West, but let's face it, if Trump gets elected, the US will be enacting the same, or more stringent rules, before long. It's almost as if the problem is religion itself, and not one particular type.

Actually no. The seed of hate for the abrahamic faith goes back to Leviticus and the teachings of the Torah. Not every of the non abrahamic faiths shits on homosexuality and being trans. I am not saying they are all great with it, but for the large part of the world that practices the abrahamic faiths including christianity and Islam the anti-glbt sentiment is clearly defined in the Torah's rules.

This is a religious problem. Nature has differing sexuality and trans behavior. It is something we are taught by abrahamic religious morality that it is wrong.

Technically, Jesus never says anything about homosexuals, and blatantly tells his followers that all the Leviticus shit was because of how stupid they used to be and it wasn't valid anymore.
But Christianity always tends to forget that. They'll happily drop the kosher shit, but hang onto the sex stuff.
Then of course Islam put it right back in there.

Well, it doesn't help that Paul put all the caveman crap back in.
While also hating on the Jews.
    Which is...a take.

Of course, the levitican shit is the over the top rules of the jewish orthodoxy. The rules are what the religious right often use to beat others over the head with, and to promote their moral superiority in a religion. It just happens that in the abrahamic tree everything can be traced backed to the Torah. The reality is that when christianity goes after sinners they often revert back to the old testament rather than use the new testament because the old testament has the rules and wrath of god type stuff.

Other religions speak little about homosexuality or transgenderism being wrong. In polytheistic religions there is often representation of how it could be good or bad depending on the relationship being spoken of in their stories. Some theologies do not even bother with it, or include it as expanding experience and personal paths. That is not to say there are not negative views of GLBT people outside of the abrahamic faiths, but the core of the abrahamic faiths is the torah which does make a statement about how sex should be.

    They shouldn't. Next question. :bailey:

But my point being that people from the Global North love to use homophobia as a gotcha against other countries when we have much to clean up on our end. If Florida could get away with executing trans people in gas chambers, they absolutely would be doing so now.

I get the distinct feeling many use this talking point to mask their own barely concealed Islamophobia and it is no less interesting this go around than it was when @Dinner started his descent into MAGAdom using similar talking points. :clyde:

You don't see an issue with the US making laws as to who we can't and cannot criticize?

If El Chup was still around and if y'all didn't do so much antisemitism at @actormike , they would both say that such a law is going to be use against pro+Palestinian Jews and Muslims than any other protestor group, like every other censorship law.

STFU. That was pretty much Sokar and Storm with that bullshit. And it turns out those two were wonderful human beings. So much so that god killed one with ass cancer and turned the other into a Nazi.

And El Chup's second cousin's uncle's neighbor's friend died in 9/11, which turned him into a terrorist sympathizer.

And most people--yes, including myself--laughed that shit off or ignored it because they were mad about other shit. It's easy to pinball the ills on two people but let's not pretend the vast majority of people didn't enable them to feel comfortable enough to do it. :dayton:

I do tend to have Islamophobia.
    And Jewophobia.
    And Christianophobia.
Any religion, really. Because they use God as an inarguable arbiter of their shitty views.
Muslims: Kill the Jews occupying our holy land!
Jews: Kill the Muslims occupying our Holy Land, cause we had it first!
Christians: Kill them both, and gays too, cause our God says we're actually the best.

On the other hand, I won't criticize someone for being Jewish, Muslim, etc. But Jewish =/= The Israeli Govt, and Muslim sure as hell =/= equal Hamas. We'd all be a lot better if we stop conflating race, religion, and government based on what's convenient to our own beliefs

I was actually considering telling Rick a few days ago that individual US states trying to pass homophobic/transphobic laws and murderous abortion bans shouldn't be allowed to govern themselves either, but I didn't want to risk changing the subject too much.
Pobody's nerfect, but that doesn't mean we can't point out when other countries are doing worse.[/quote]
Isn't bashing Florida just as wrong when Northern states aren't perfect either? :chris:
Ah, there it is. Feel like naming names? Do you have similar concerns about the folks here criticizing Israel, or America, or Christians? How do you feel about Tuckerfans various threads telling members of different religions to "go fuck themselves?" Remember when his "Are you still an Orthodox Jew? If so, go fuck yourself." thread didn't even bother singling out Orthodox Jews, and just directed all Jews to go fuck themselves? Where was your concern then? :chris:

Huh, I just noticed that Tucker never started a "go fuck yourself" thread targeting Muslims or any particular branch of Islam. Weird. :marathon:

Back in the bad old days before Lanzman took a harder line against the racist content, a big part of the boards identity was how much freedom people were given to say awful things without official consequences. Sometimes it sucked ass, but most of us considered it the price of admission to a board where we wouldn't get banned for the pettiest reasons.
See above. What were the rest of us, yourself included, in a position to do about such people back then? We couldn't even rep war against them effectively because their clique was large enough and obsessive enough to protect themselves from staying in the red very long.

Oh, fun fact: When I searched for "kikey" on the board, most of the first page of results was you using it. :async:

Interesting that you didn't post screenshots of that, but here, I'll link the search and people can see for themselves that my "abondance use" was me either critizing people for using the term in the past or making a reference to people that did, you absolute disingenuous liar :dayton:

    http://wordforge.net/index.php?search/73853553/&q=Kikey&o=date&c

How does it feel to have even less integrity than Jamie Whistler? :weep:

As for the whole "it was the price of admission" bit, I'd tell you say that to the other PoC on the board, but apart from Alphaman and Raoul there aren't any because they were run off by Storm or left in absolute disgust. Frankly, if I'd been raised in anything close to wokeness in the true African American Vernacular English meaning of the word, I would've cut bait the first time Tasvir called Mewa the N-word and people laughed it off :garamet:

    Why the hell would I?

I won't deny there are people who are absolutely using the conflict to hide their antisemitism. There is no reason to call a Jewish person a fucking Nazi that Hitler should've gassed harder, not even Zionists (and the Christian Zionists outnumber Jewish ones by a large amount, for what it's worth)

I dunno why you'd think I'd take issue with people criticizing America or the specific ways Christianity has warped American culture. Who here hasn't besides Dayton3?

Oh, absolutely. I just think it's funny that she became the most prolific active user of the term just from how often she reminds us about other people using the term. I found myself on the first page too, so I'm in no position to condemn anyone. :clyde:

Because hate and bigotry are supposed to be bad regardless of the target?

I'm not a fan of hate. I don't support bigotry, or racism, or any flavour of phobe. But when we get to a point where we're not allowed to make legitimate criticisms of certain groups or point out bad people among them lest we be accused of bigotry, that's taking tolerance too far the other way.

That is true, but the recent atheist CHUDding shows us that you can use believing in nothing to make you the good guy too.

leave it to atheist CHUDs to reveal that the religious were actually dividing by zero and then procede to divide by zero.

CHUDs are amazing creatures when you look at their mental gymnastics.

Well, that's really a "might makes right" case, isn't it?
Technically, in the USA, the Federal government is supposed to step in and ensure people's rights are protected. This is what happened with slavery, women's rights, civil rights, gay marriage, abortion, etc. But when you have nutcase rightwingers in a majority on the Supreme Court, then the tail wags the dog.
In the case of countries like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, etc, should they be allowed to govern themselves? For the sake of any minority group in those countries, no. But then there are people like you (no offense) who think "sovereignty" is more important than, literally, people's lives.
