Don't fret, precious, I'm here. Step away from the window. Go back to sleep. Safe from pain... and truth... and choice... and other poison devils. See, they don't give a fuck about you like I do. Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums Counting bodies like sheep Go back to sleep I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies, and all your demons I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices, son They're one and the same, I must isolate you Isolate and save you from yourself
Okay Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya Day after day your home life's a wreck The powers that be just breathe down your neck You get no respect, you get no relief You gotta speak up and yell out your piece So back off your rules, back off your jive 'Cause I'm sick of not living to stay alive Leave me alone, I'm not asking a lot I just don't want to be controlled That's all I want, that's all I want That's all I want, that's all I want Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya How many times is it gonna take Till someone around you hears what you say You've tried being cool, you feel like a lie You've played by their rules, now it's their turn to try So back off your rules, back off your jive 'Cause I'm sick of not living to stay alive Leave me alone, I'm not asking a lot I just don't want to be controlled That's all I want, that's all I want That's all I want, that's all I want I said it before I'll say it again If you could just listen Then it might make sense So back off your rules, back off your jive 'Cause I'm sick of not living to stay alive Leave me alone, I'm not asking a lot I just don't want to be controlled That's all I want, that's all I want That's all I want Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
I've been avoiding reposting bands, but newer albums are a legitimate exception, don't you think? So here's your earworm for the weekend from the Inner Banks:
Gonna see these fellers again tomorrow night and drink tequila with the singer at the meet and greet.

The Browns Jim Ed, Bonnie and Maxine. #1 on the billboard pop chart in the summer of 1959. Here in 1999.
If Oldfella is going to give me an opening like that, I better take it. According to the song, Honky Tonk Angels are created by unfaithful husbands. In 1952, Hank Thompson had a #1 country hit with "The Wild Side of Life". The chorus of that song starts with the line "I didn't know God made honky tonk angels". Later that year, Kitty Wells recorded an answer song "It wasn't God who made Honky Tonk Angels". This was the first ever #1 country song by a female artist. Here are husband and wife, Waylon Jennings and Jesse Colter, to clarify:
