Ebola - slow to spread, hard to catch. So something like AIDS?

It's no more bullshit than restricting the travel of the nurses in Dallas for 21 days after their exposure, which we did once we realized that they might have Ebola. So far, about 500 health care workers treating Ebola patients have come down with Ebola, and over 200 of them have died from it. In a prior case, and NBC news journalist was put under voluntary quarantine in New York when her cameraman came down with Ebola. Instead of keeping herself isolated, she went to a popular restaurant. Then a doctor with Ebola returned to New York and managed to use just about every form of public transportation available. So the governors concluded that people who've been treating Ebola patients have a high likelihood of having Ebola, that they will freely move about the city exposing thousands of people to Ebola, and that voluntary quarantines do not work.

The nurse, as it turns out, works for the CDC in media relations. She still had her cell phone and was no doubt talking to the CDC about what they wanted her to do to build support for the CDC's no-quarantine policy and to help its embattled director. So she threw a public fit that she was being abused and that her rights were being violated. If that's really the way she behaves then I'm sure the Africans in the hot zone were overjoyed when she left, because she probably demanded a staff of a dozen black maids to attend to her needs and make her little cucumber sandwiches.

Does my HMO cover 21 days of quarantine? Or will Chris Christie pick up the tab in order to save everyone from my ebola juices?

If you'd ever donated blood, you'd know that there's a whole list of countries you have to swear you haven't been to within the past 90 days to two years, and only some of them are in Africa.

It will be hilarious if the nurse later gets sick with Ebola.

And Obama and the CDC will have massive egg on their face. Christie and Coumo too for allowing Obama to badger them into dropping the 21 day quarantine. We shall see.

And the US military is putting all it's people under a 21 day quarantine before they can come back to America. In Italy.

The Obama administration would rather chance more ebola infections than admit that not taking more effective precautions from the beginning might have been even the teeniest-tiniest of mistakes.

    It's not the deaths.

It's the ripping off the blinders and showing low-information America how utterly incompetent Obama and his minions are.

I honestly don't see any other administration doing anything different, if only out of the general human arrogance that it can't possibly happen to us.

Look at NOLA and Katrina. We had DAYS to get people out. A whole evacuation plan had been laid out by someone that wasn't Nagan years before to include the school buses that laid soaked in four feet of water. And this level of incompetence for something thst is seasonal and far more likely to occur than an ebola outbreak.

Two years? More like ever living there at all. After donating blood for years, after about 2002 or so I find out anyone living in Britain in the early 1980's could have Mad Cow cooties.
WTF? I think I'd know after 20 years if I had it.

Today Australia quit issuing visas for the people from the affected countries, apparently because they don't have as much confidence in their health care system, whereas we have the CDC. Back in March the CDC sent a team over to quell the outbreak when only about 50 people had died, and the WHO and Doctors Without Borders were already on the case. Eight months later about 5,000 people have died and the outbreak is still expanding.

"We don’t just react based on our fears. We react based on facts and judgment and making smart decisions," Obama said, right before he French kissed a nurse whose eyes were bleeding from Ebola.

I may have added that last part...

Without "fear", there would never be a reason to quarantine, which we do too keep a deadly communicable disease from spreading when no vaccine is available. We do it because we're afraid the disease will spread - which it will if we don't quarantine. That's a fact, and why New York, New Jersey, and Illinois put such a quarantine in place, as they don't want to have Ebola on their streets.

Meanwhile, the US State Department is planning to fly Ebola patients from Africa to the US, estimating the cost at half a million dollars per patient.

Today, I went to the doc, and they sent me to the hospital to have some blood drawn (nothing serious, just routine tests related to my blood pressure meds), and part of the processing was to ask if I'd recently been to Africa or had had contact with anyone who'd been there or handled bats or rodents that were from that area. The "God, do I ever feel stupid for having to ask you about this" expression on the receptionist's face at the hospital was priceless.

The worry is that if they get a few cases running loose in New York, that question will no longer help and they'll have to assume that any case that matches the symptoms might be Ebola.

The cost the State Department estimated was $200,000 for the plane ride and $300,000 for treatment. Their idea is probably one Ebola patient per specially equipped and staffed CDC jet, just as we saw being used to transport the two Dallas nurses.

RACIST! Yes, that's what Liberals are saying. Even if you list his FUBAR's (which I won't because he's about on par with any president) it's really because of his skin color. You might not realize it, but apparently Liberals are like God - they know your deep down thoughts and motivations and of course what's best for you.

First, that's complete BS and you know it. Democrats worked with Bush on a variety of initiatives. Second, suppose you were right, that means it's okay to fuck with the political process out of spite? Be better than that.

    Please.

    Get fucking real you idiots.

Going after politicians harshly has been around forever. Look at how the politicians over the course of the entire history of this country have been gone after. The only exception was Washington. After him it was a free fire zone. People complain about negative ads now? If the early Presidents had access to TV and radio it would make today's politicians look like saints.

And it's not bullshit that the left went after Bush with venom. You'd have to be a clueless idiot to watch eight years of the Bush administration and not see the venom.

I don't expect lefties to treat the next Republican president any different but then again I don't live in this fantasy world you guys live in with this Kumbaya shit. (spelling....)

So on a more serious note.....

The nurse, who just happens to work for the CDC, who got released from New Jersey's mandatory quarantine is also refusing to follow the voluntary quarantine in Maine.

Everyone keeps claiming she tested negative but the whole point of the 21 day quarantine is that the disease is not detectable in the blood until you are sick. If it was detectable before you got sick then we wouldn't need any type of quarantine. Those who were sick would be found instantly and those who weren't would be free to go.

According to the CDC: "Ebola virus is detected in blood only after the onset of symptoms, usually fever. It may take up to 3 days after symptoms appear for the virus to reach detectable levels. Virus is generally detectable by real-time RT-PCR from 3-10 days after symptoms appear."

The CDC says symptoms usually appear in 8-10 days. The 21 days and 42 days time frame are because it can take up to that long as well. If you go 42 days without getting sick you don't have it basically.

So yes she has tested negative. But even the CDC has said they can only detect Ebola after you get sick from Ebola! And even then it might take a further 3 days after you get sick for them to detect it in your blood.

So when she refuses a voluntary quarantine should it turn into a mandatory one?

She's been in contact with people who are infectious. We know from the CDC that Ebola can't be detected until after you're sick from it. Her testing negative means nothing at this point.

And you claim there is no medical reason to be quarantined?

What will you claim if she gets sick?
