Bah. Lloyd Bentsen wasn't a liberal. If the Dems could run a Lloyd Bentsen or a who's the Jew? Ran as Gore's sidekick. He's an independent now. If the Dems could run a candidate like them I'd vote for either one in a heartbeat before I'd vote for 70% of the GOP candidates in this contest.
Oddly enough, this is one of the reasons I'm back here posting. I really can't stand the gaggles of Obama supporters that flock the moderate and left parts of the political internet. Obama's personality cult has really brought home the point that extreme twaddle is nonpartisan. It's made me much more relaxed about libertarians to see such silliness coming not from the right side of our political spectrum.
So what would you and Packard ordain that those people value instead, and who in the current crop has those things?
Or more to the point, politics has mainly been about personality since Andrew Jackson discovered that power.
In Packard's defense it's much worse now with the media praddling on endlessly about things that don't matter. Also if that were true Packard would be immortal, thus making the banning him jokes kind of ironic as he can never be banned. Is Packard perhaps Highlander?!
One thing I will leave this cycle wondering about is what would have happened if Ron Paul was as charismatic as some of the front runners. He has obviously tapped into something, but his delivery is as cooky as some of his messages, thereby turning many people off I imagine.
One thing I miss is the slogans. Hasn't been a good natural slogan to describe a candidate in a long long time. Don't give me Reagan either, he cheated there having just lifted a movie role. Where's the Tippacanoe and Tyler too of today? Why isn't someone fit as a Bull Moose or strong as Old Hickory?
Slick and Bubba are rather uninspired, aren't they? Even by the era of Tricky Dick we'd become less creative
Obama is no JFK. Until Obama commands men in combat and manages to rescue them after being shipwrecked (or something comparable) Obama is just Dan Quayle with slightly more pigment.
I'd ordain you finally learn to read; no-one has suggested ordaining political opinions for anyone. Or would you ordain that I am not allowed to be frightened, or openly say that I am frightened, by some statements? Now, if you're asking for my opinion: From the bunch of likely candidates, I'd grudgingly accept that Obama is the best choice. But not for his charisma, and not because people fall for it. I'd much rather someone would support many of the ideas quoted by Obama's slogans in a sincere and matter-of-fact manner, much like -- yes, here he comes -- Ron Paul appears to be supporting his convictions.
I mean, he wasn't wrong...it just turns out that America may also prefer to elect a fascist who doesn't even talk that nice, and increasingly has apparent problems speaking.
dude... have you seen your guy speaking lately? I've got senile schizophrenics at work that can complete a thought better.
