Dayton cares as much about democracy as he does about black people.

Was that dehumanizing, racist, or both? @gul?

I don't believe there is any hacking. Edit: Of the election machines.

The Democrats are trying to sabotage Trump just like they did to Bush. Democrats are actively damaging the election and the electoral college because they are fascists who can't stand they lost.

The CIA didn't release this. The Democrats leaked the story.

The CIA doesn't even agree with the FBI and other agencies on this.

I do believe the Russians tried to influence the election but not through hacking.

I thought all the other agencies and most private security firms agreed with the CIA on this.

Also we know the supposed hacking of Hillary's emails took place long before Trump was even the nominee. For all we know the Russians hacked Hillary because they thought she was going to be the next POTUS.

From what I've heard, the Russians weren't trying to get Trump elected or Hillary beaten. They just wanted to shake up the faith in the electoral process.

That was the original assumption during the election. The CIA presented an updated conclusion this week. :async:

Technically true so far, but if foreign diplomats keep staying at Trump's hotels (this is well-documented) after noon on 1/20 (and he has not put his assets into a blind trust), then Trump is receiving an emolument from a foreign state and that would be impeachable. It's also possible that it's not technically true now; depends on whether "president-elect" is considered an "Office of Profit or Trust". Given that there is (presumably) legislation concerning privileges that PEOTUS receives (like intelligence briefings), I imagine it could be construed that way by an interested Congress and probably upheld by SCOTUS. At any rate, if the status quo remains, on 1/20 it's definitely a constitutional breach and impeachable offense.

Additionally, there's the other emoluments clause (I think this one is actually called the compensation clause, but whatever):
"The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them."

Which means that without a blind trust, if his facilities keep charging the Secret Service rent after noon on 1/20, he's receiving an emolument from the United States, and can be impeached. Also there's no Congressional override on this one (although I suppose no one would have standing to sue if Congress failed to impeach - perhaps a Congresscritter could get an injunction against him?).

    Like I said.

    Impeach Trump.

I want President Pence and perhaps Vice President Rubio anyway.

Yeah I'm not seeing the House and Senate, even Democrats, removing him from office because someone stayed at a hotel he owns.

He should put them in a blind trust.

People here and elsewhere are living in a fantasy if they think President Trump is going to be impeached for anything he has done so far.

    1) There is no precedent for conducting impeachment proceedings against a president for something he did BEFORE taking office. The only thing close was the efforts to oust Vice President Agnew and that involved criminality that extended into his time in the office of VP.

    2) Be honest. Ultimately the only thing that matters as to whether Donald Trump would ever be impeached is

    How is the economy doing?

Nixon was forced out of office during the worst recession since World War Two.

Clinton survived an attempt to remove him from office when the economy was going alone quite nicely.

"I didn't vote for Trump" is 2016's version of "I was never for the invasion of Iraq," isn't it? :diacanu:

Believe what you want but I stated as such through the entire election.

Plus if memory serves HE WON. Most people I know enjoy letting everyone else know that they voted for the winner.

actually, I'm not sure I want Trump impeached and Pence unleashed, what I want is so much infighting among Republicans and external pressure from everyone else over the illegitimacy of his standing (not just the Putin factor but the Comey factor as well) that they spend so much time bogged down in all that that he can't damage as much as he would otherwise and it fatally wounds him in terms of re-election.

Also, it will be interesting how long Pence and the Pharisees continue to cover his ass (and thus taint Pence in terms of being an acceptable replacement) or if at some point they will stab him in the back in order to gain ultimate power (and don't think for one second that they are above such duplicity)

the goal was not specifically that Trump win. According to the huge NYT article on this, initially it was routine spy v. spy stuff until they scored the major breech at the DNC (which is as much the result of shoddy DNC security as Russian skill) .

It is known, however, that Putin holds a grudge against Clinton over the Ukraine business. So when they got the ammunition to actively cause damage, the goal was that Clinton lose. Trump was just gravy because he's such a buffoon he can be manipulated but the primary goal was her losing.

at first that was the assumption and even if that was all it was it would be enough to warrant outrage in any fair minded person.

    :up::up::up::up::up::up::up::up::up::up::up:

You guys look even more ridiculous than when you were trying to claim that Bush was in bed with the Saudis. No doubt Trump and Russia will be the subject of Michael Moore's next film for you guys to masterbate to.

It sounds like something from conspiracy theorists and the tinfoil hat brigade because that's what it really is. The only thing you've proven is that they've done business together. Guess what skippy? Businessmen of Bush and Trump's stature do business with foreign entities all the time. That doesn't mean that they are in bed with them or acting as their puppet.

How many times did Bush file for bankruptcy?

I see you’ve done your usual meticulous job of refuting each point in detail (or were you too busy “masterbating” to concentrate?).

You may not have voted for him, but you’ll defend him to the death. Why?

Those who prefer blindness cannot be convinced that there is anything to see.

Here's the thing though. IF in fact Trump is not beholden to Russia, he'd still probably be a mess for other reasons but it ends up being nothing and all the caution was overkill. No great loss to anyone.

On the other hand, IF he is in fact beholden to them and we all take your "What, me worry?" attitude and pretends it's a perfectly normal thing, then real and serious damage can be done.

So the wise course is to err on the side of caution.

And you will do.....WHAT in the event that this fantasy comes true?

A very very small price to pay.
The idea in speaking up now is for people to see it for what it is when/if it happens. It's not the solution for what to do to fix it if it does.

The alternative being for us to all emulate you and choose blindness less we have to consider harsh truth.
