Though in Empire and Return, Luke's teachers clearly wanted him to kill Vader. The Light Side isn't nice, it just gets better press.
I thought the whole redemption idea with Luke was that he didn't need to kill to save his father, which is what made him one of the greatest Jedi.
It certainly redeemed him. I'm not sure whether it made him the greatest Jedi, or something better than a Jedi, with a Jedi being the person who would dutifully kill Vader, just as the Jedi dutifully avoided love, etc.
George Lucas has specifically stated that Luke is the most powerful Jedi of all time so that's on record at least in terms of his command of the force. I actually said "one of" as opposed to "the" greatest Jedi above as in my opinion one would have to argue that the greatest jedi must always have been Anakin, if not the most powerful, since he's the one who ultimately saves the day. But then, he does kill where Luke does not. So maybe Luke is indeed the greatest as well as the most powerful. I definitely think that with a further three episodes the series will cease to simply be the story of Anakin, as it was before the sequel trilogy was announced. So perhaps Anakin's importance will be reduced as Luke's status is further augmented.
Well according to Yoda the only way for Luke to truly finish his training is to defeat Vader. Since Luke is the last Jedi left, wouldn't that make him the most powerful at least at the time being?
Bullshit. I may have thought so the first time, but on multiple viewings, the separate themes do stand out. If I played Kylo's theme, Reys's theme, etc, etc, you'd recognize them.
I find myself humming that mysterious theme that only plays during the end, when Rey is climbing up to the path on the island.
It comes from a dodgy camera video that raises a lot of questions. Like, what are they doing printing posters with the name already? What are they doing letting those posters be opened? What are they doing letting those posters be put up on a wall? What are they doing putting those posters on a wall where any schmuck with a camera can take a photo/video of it? If it's possibly a piece of Star Wars Celebration swag, it doesn't happen until July, so why isn't that shit in a vault until the very day? I'm going with it's a fake, it's planted misinformation, or, it's a planted test run to see reactions.
Indeed, the music is not impressive at all. It's probably the only part of the film that fell flat for me.

Interesting, but not all that compelling. The thing about the light saber style is completely wrong. The first time we see that pointed lunge it is done by Luke in his ROTJ fight with Vader. Much of the rest is similar - - it makes sense if you are already convinced or actively ignore other evidence. It's certainly a possibility we shouldn't rule out, but no stronger than some of the other theories.
And this Is just wrong. Look at the poster: On the "Dark Side" you have R2, 3P0, X-Wings, BB-8, and Lupito's character, while on the "Light Side" you have Star Killer base, Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, across the whole bottom section of the poster are stormtroopers, and also in the middle is what's-her-name in the chrome suit. If you're going to argue that Rey's Palpy's granddaughter on the basis of her being in the center between the Light and Dark Sides of the poster, then Chrome Girl there, also has to be in the running. Methinks the rules of artistic placement govern that more than any clues to who is what. After all, if you were to attempt the same kind of "analysis" of the original Star Wars poster You'd conclude that Vader was sending X-Wings against Luke and Leia, R2 and 3P0 were the other major characters in the film, and there's some kind of major battle on a desert planet.
But her parents have to be prominent in the story or her character doesn't make sense, and the problem is that we're all thinking through the lens of conventional 20th century family relations. She's almost certainly Luke's niece, via Anakin Skywalker -> C3PO -> C3PO jacking around with some imperial genetic processing equipment he didn't understand. That would explain why she's so good with machines.
