Is it because they are all descendants of criminals? Something in the soil? Why!?!?

    1) They choose to live in place where every animal wants to kill them.

    2) Bluey. (Fuck you btw.)

    3) And now this:

    :wtf:

I feel sorry for anyone living along the border of Western and South Australia. 2.5 hours time difference is just nuts.

There is a place in Alabama, The Valley, where because historically everyone worked in the mills on the other side of the river/border is on Eastern Time Zone with Georgia (rest of the state is Central) and uses a Georgia area code. Hopefully any border areas there have something similar.

I am just not as impressed with humanity's general idiocy post trump. Did they draw those time zones with a sharpie? Sure it is bad, but I can still understand it.

    COVFEFE!

You tell me what the fuck that means. Our president said that in the middle of the night while he was in possession of the nuclear football. Temporal gymnastics is nothing compared to the linguistic, logic, thought, and medical gymnastics Trump did. And he did that sober.

That is just some fucked up time zones.

I don't know why the apology to overseas friends -- if I need to call somebody in Australia I'm going to be asking Google what time it is in their city no matter what, so it's not like their boundaries or DST policies really affect me.

I do wonder if there's anyplace in the world that has decided, instead of sticking to political boundaries, to draw their time zones so that the boundaries go through the most sparsely populated areas possible (to minimize the number of people who have to do things like commute across zones).

I think the better question here is why the fuck is Northern Territory and South Australia on a 30 minute offset instead of on the hour like Western Oz, QLD, NSW, ACT, Taz, and Victoria?

One of our reject colonies calling another mentally defective, LOL.

And before you say "Brexit", that just proves we got lax in shipping the halfwits off to far-flung reaches.

I too feel sorry for the literally dozens of people living in the middle of one of the world's largest deserts.

The big time difference between SA and WA makes sense. Perth is a 2700km drive east of Adelaide, it's a long way.

They do have something similar, the few towns in the area (which mainly exist to support road traffic) actually use their own unofficial time zone of UTC+8.45.

Due to the Coriolis Effect, the clocks in Australia run backwards. This time zone scheme accounts for that.

When they were figuring out time zones for Australia way back when, there was a strong desire to have as much as possible on the same time.

A compromise was reached where UTC+9.30 would be used for VIC/NSW/QLD/TAS/SA/NT.

SA and NT adopted the consensus time zone, then the other states decided they didn't want to align after all.

Every so often there is talk of aligning us with a round number time zone but it never comes to anything because of the practical considerations around doing so. If we aligned with the East Coast it would put us ahead of where we geographically should be, and would be extra brutal for anyone further west in the state.

If we aligned to our "actual" time zone of UTC+9 it would put us an hour out of sync with NSW and VIC, bad for business and more disruptive for the border communities.

At that point just say fuck it, pull an India and China, and put all of Oz onto UTC+9? Sure, Brisbane, Townsville, and Sydney might bitch about the early nights, and Perth might bitch about the late mornings, but at least it'll give the clock spiders something to do!

Let me take this opportunity to remind everyone that DST sucks and we should be on standard time all year.

    False!

We should instead adopt year round DST.

This map is really old. South Alabama has been 251 area code for over 20 years.

Also, it doesn’t cover the fun that is Arizona:

    B9EEF481-D1E0-4F32-9051-A3508BBF72B5.png

Unlike most of the United States, Arizona does not observe daylight saving time (DST), with the exception of the Navajo Nation, which does observe DST. The Hopi Reservation, which is not part of the Navajo Nation but is geographically surrounded by it, also does not observe DST.[2] For this reason, driving the length of Arizona State Route 264 east from Tuba City while DST is in place involves six time zone changes in less than 100 miles (160 km).

No. It's easier and better to stay on standard time.

Normally I would make the obligatory reply about how no-one here drinks that, but we actually have some in the fridge right now because my wife got a taste for it when we were in the UK a few years ago.

    Indeed.

Marmite though - delicious. Have it every day.

What is the American equivalent of Vegemite / Marmite?

    Sadly nothing

Also a big Marmite guy. My folks are British so it was a huge staple growing up. It just has more pop and flavor than Vegemite

Basically Vegemite is like ghetto Marmite

Well, we usually throw away the gross solid goop/grains leftover from the beer brewing process, or else use it as livestock feed. Isn't that what vegemite and marmite basically is?
