Sorry I forgot to translate part of this for Australians. By "beer brewing" I meant "Foster's brewing." Sorry for any confusion.
As long as that's a Huntsman... Note to self: In addition to clock spiders, Oz apparently has hat spiders too.
You know he's required to bring one species with him, right? At least you get to choose: Drop bear Hoop snake Clock or Hat spider
As far as Aussies go, I think it's a combination of things. Sure, it was a prison colony. Sure there are wild things that are out there to kill all of them every day. Sure, there was Crocodile Dundee, and the Crocodile Hunter himself. But at the end of the day I think it has to do with Walzing Matilda or maybe Men at Work.
Almost walked my face into a spider about that big when I was there. Web was strung up across a game trail.
I won't lie, I was afraid of one of those bastards turning up in berthing after our port visit to Sydney in 2011
I never understand why Americans are so worried about Australian spiders when you have fucking tarantulas.
Which are basically harmless. Meanwhile, you've got drop bears, saltwater crocs, the only venomous mammals on the planet, and WTF knows what else that's deadly there. I mean, as fucked up as Florida is, you don't see anyone making memes like this: That should tell you something.
And 18K years ago people were raising them for food. https://nypost.com/2021/10/04/humans-once-raised-dinosaur-like-bird-ate-half-born-young-study/
One of my first exposures to how small my world was edned up being where I used a common term in telivision advertising where I was. We used to live in the tri-state area because we had NY, NJ, and CT all in our shopping and advertising radius. So I used the term online not thinking of it. Even with the americans that term was really not helpful.
Now I want to find a way to pull Google Maps data into a heat map of businesses with "Tri-State" in their names.
