"Yeah, Americans vote on a Tuesday, never on a Wednesday. D..A..D.. last voted on a Tuesday in 1975. It was cold, 38 degrees with an 18 knot northwest wind. He drove to the polling office in his straight eight, "fireball eight" car."
How is it not relevant? If you don't yet have proof of ID, (which is why you need that ID in the first place), how can the issuer of that first ID know that you're really who you say you are? What evidence must you produce to convince them? And if that evidence is enough proof of ID to warrant them issuing a valid photo ID to you, why is it NOT sufficient proof of your identity at the polls?
I'm sure Chardman's point is to prove that proper ID requires some kind of money to acquire. Birth certificates require money. SS cards are free, but there's many one office in most counties. Califirnia requires two forms of ID to include a birth certificate, SS card, passport, and student ID for high schoolers.
Come on Federal Farmer, he's practically handed you the answer, put it together! To get "proper ID", you need to use certain documents to vouch for your identity. Those documents... identify you. And they are not a passport, driver license, or other government issued photo ID.
First, proving citizenship isn't the question, we're talking proof of identity. You do not need to be a citizen to do most of the things on that list you posted. Second, the firearm question is not germane, but yes, perhaps it is racist.
Owning and possessing firearms is a right, a photo ID is required to enjoy that right. Somehow that's ok, but requiring photo ID to vote, which is also a right, is not ok. Care to explain? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Plenty of non-citizens have SS cards, they can be permanent residents or they can acquire a number illegally, doesn't make them citizens and therefore eligible to vote.
Hmm, guess you didn't read what I wrote, so I won't bother to answer the question twice, so long as you're all about ignoring the black and white.
Conversely: you see no problem with requiring ID to exercise one's right to vote, but think it's a violation of one's rights to require comparable ID to purchase a firearm. No need to explain, as we all know you're a hypocrite.
The difference between the two, is something that Anna hinted at earlier. There are laws which prohibit anything that might be construed as a poll tax (a financial obligation, such as requiring the purchase of ID), as a prerequisite to voting. There are no comparable laws that apply to gun ownership.
I love the way you just Make Shit Up. You must believe what you post, because your sincerity virtually oozes through the screen. You're telling me how I got my library card. I was four. All I had to do was prove I could write my full name and home address. But you're telling me you couldn't get a library card until after you got your driver's license. That would go a long way toward explaining your complete lack of knowledge about oh, so many things. You won't admit you just pasted that image from some group email one of your gun-lubbing friends forwarded to you, probably without even reading it all the way through. Where ya gonna shift the goalposts this time?
Federal Dumbass didn't get a library card before he could drive because he's still learning to read. No wonder he is so full of fail.
I don't know about other states but in Ohio you only need $8.50 for a photo ID. So fuck off on the whining about the cost! I've paid more for a six pack of beer! And of that whole list of many valid reasons to have an ID card, you focus on library card. Really?
It's $32 for one on California, and you have to wait a week in the mail for it to come. Granted everything is more expensive here, but with as flimsy as these things have become you'd think they coukd print them on the spot like NJ's DMV or my bank was able to do with my recent replacement debit card.
Hey, be nice. The kid idolizes you. You could be mentoring him instead of insulting him. He's one of the few here who finds you witty. How would you go about getting a photo ID if you didn't have a birth certificate?
Why wouldn't you have your birth certificate? There should be some kind of base expected amount of personal responsibility with the American electorate.
So maybe your union rep can work up something around letting people take a two-hour lunch on Election Day. Q.v. Post #110. Legacy of the segregated South.
This is the part where leftforge basically says that black people are too stupid and too poor to be able to obtain a photo ID. About the library card, I really don't need to explain anything to anyone as to why i needed to provide an ID (note I didn't specifically mention photo ID) to get a library card. Gul proceeded to tell me how he got one as a kid in order to make me look stupid. I can only assume he's lived in the same county all of his life. When I was a kid, it was a lot easier, but I haven't lived in the same country all of my life. I haven't even lived in the same state all of my life either. As we all know standards change from state to state county to county and town to town, so I'll let leftforge figure out the rest. The focusing on the library card is a tactic to distract and dismiss the valid points I've brought up in the discussion, which is why I ignored it. I like to stay on message and not allow them to derail the discussion with focus on stupid shit that have nothing to do with the discussion.
