That's like expecting Abramstrek to suddenly magically become decent starting with the fourth movie.

Urban really is an actor's actor. That very first scene as McCoy in JJ-1 gave me goosebumps.

I find this bittersweet. I want the movies to be a closed loop, not go on and on like Transformer movies.

OTOH, if they have finally figured out how to make a really good one, I might change my mind.

Trailers aside, all the actual movie clips I've seen, "Shields up" and "It's not you it's me" and the one with Scotty... they LOOK LIKE STAR TREK and not like an action movie wearing a Star Trek mask. This gives me hope

I don't want to speak too soon, but I think they did finally make a Star Trek movie with this one.

In all seriousness, I thought him and Scotty were gay for other in the last film the way they hung with one another.

    Be careful reading reviews.

Jake Coyle's (Associated Press) review--linked at RottenTomatoes--gives away what appears to be a massive spoiler in his. It's akin to saying in a review of The Sixth Sense that Bruce Willis is really good at playing a ghost, or in a review of The Empire Strikes Back wondering what Luke will do now that he's discovered the dark secret of his father's true identity. It's that bad. I'm really, really pissed that I read it.

Edit: there are ways what Coyle reveals might not be a spoiler, but if not, he reveals a direction the plot will go.

    Is it
If so, there's a tv spot that gives it away.

Well, in 3 days some of us here will know this flick's quality, or the lack thereof!

Others in 2 evenings, as I'm sure this flick'll probably be opening up tad earlier Thursday evening at some flickhouses, & at 12:am on the 22nd.

I still think all of this flick's coming attractions (IMHO) make it look & seem like an extremely cheesy '70s porno flick set in outer space that probably would've had Dirk Diggler (had he really existed) as its headliner!

    :(

Okay. Well, if it wasn't spoiled before, it definitely is now.

Why, for the love of fuck, would they reveal that?

Like I said, Paramount already has in a tv spot. I saw it on YouTube yesterday. It doesn't bother me as much, I still want to see how it all plays out. But yeah I now know the whole plot.

FF, do you plan to post your Siskel & Ebert of STB here Friday?

    ATTENTION MEDIA CENTRAL MODS:
Speaking of reviews for this flick, should there be just one review thread, including both spoiler & non-spoiler reviews? Perhaps this very thread? Or 2 separate threads for spoiler & non-spoiler reviews?

See that you do. Spoiler tags are mandatory for this one, folks. I realize 95% of us will have seen it by Monday, but we need to go at least a week without open spoilers, just to be sure everybody gets a chance to see the movie first.

I just realized this is the first Trek movie I haven't been kept up with spoilers for. I'm not sure what to expect going in, but the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes gives me warm fuzzies.

What about having a separate review thread for that? That way people who haven't seen it don't have to click on the thread.

Since I'm probably the only one who will see it tomorrow, what if I just start one. This thread is technically about the trailer.

Yeah, that works -- just be sure you mention spoilers in the title. Then anybody who has seen the movie can go to that thread for discussion.

So it's getting favorable yet not raging reviews.

OK let's not kid ourselves. I'd be there if it had 1 percent on IMDB.

Do RottenTomatoes scores usually change much after the opening? 94% is more than respectable.

I will be very pleased if I was wrong on this.
