I would normally be all about jumping on the fundies here, but this is what you get when you have 20 children. You cannot watch and educate them all properly. Still, from what has come out so far it does not seem all that terrible. Unless they find something big, I do not really give a fuck if a couple of their kids happened to explore themselves. They are kids. They did something that was perhaps somewhat wrong. They were all innocent. When the adults found out it stopped. That is how you know they are not a pedo. Pedos do not stop because someone tells them it is wrong. It just sounds like a couple of these kids just stumbled into the wrong behavior. The bahavior is not even that wrong, it is just that we desire them to be a bit older before doing those things. Of all the fucked up things that family has done, this has got to be the most normal and really innocent thing I have heard of them doing. Unless some investigation comes out with some radical news of more kid fucking I am going to give the duggars the same forgiveness I would give anyone else with young kids who got caught fooling around. Now if Pa and Ma touched them there would be a different story.
It's the hypocrisy that pisses people off. Like the anti-gay Republicans that turn out to be gay. I'm not pissed they're gay, I'm pissed they harmed people like themselves. The Duggars called gay people pedophiles, and then when pedophilic behavior was in their precious fucking family they covered it up, and didn't give the kid therapy, they gave him a bunch of quackery Jesus shit.
I do not consider kids playing around with each other to be pedophelic behavior. I see nothing that indicates he is a pedophile. What I do see are some kids who were all together and had little supervision ending up doing some things they should not be doing at their age. I see the parents coming in after the event and having a talk with them about what they did. The biggest problem I have is that talk was probably filled with lies and bullshit and that fucked them up. Unless the boy is still going around trying to molest little kids I am pretty good with saying its kids being kids and they should have kept it quiet because idiots would think it is sinister. Now this is all based on what I have heard so far so I could be wrong. Those people are creepy and perhaps other things did happen. I am not going to call this pedophelia because it seems to be natural from the description I have seen. Oh, and I am not the duggars so I do not do what they do. That is why it is not tit for tat.
well you do have some misunderstandings... it was one kid feeling up his sisters - sometimes in their sleep - including one 10 years younger than him it did not, in fact, stop when the parents found out but apparently word came to them on three separate occasions, we can't be entirely sure it ever stopped under the circumstances then there's the fact that the doctrine they teach is so oppressive to females that it teaches the girls the assault was probably their own fault there's the fact that the parents did nothing to protect their girls after the first time, and got him a "stern talking to" the second time there's the fact that there's no evidence the girls ever got professional counseling or Josh and on top of all that, there's Michelle accusing all trans women of being potential predators in the restroom, not even having the good grace to show a little humility under the circumstances. I'll show her a similar amount of respect to what she - and Josh while working for FRC - have shown me
What Nova said. This isn't a seven-year-old Lena Dunham poking at her baby sister scenario. And my family on both sides were largely kept ignorant of sex, but no one had urges to diddle their sisters in the middle of the night. All of them need counseling, Josh included.
Holy fuck, they look like clones! It reminds me of when I picked up my Boxer when she was a puppy and they all looked so uniform. I was told that's the mark of good breeding.
So are we pretending there haven't been folks trying for years to dig up dirt and smear these people? That there isn't a political agenda behind all the outrage?
I'd say most sane people are disgusted by a family allowing their son to abuse their daughters and covering it up to keep the cameras rolling, regardless of political affiliation. That the Duggars, including Joshua himself were out comparing gays to pedos was the icing on the cake. I'm glad it's out in the open, so maybe the victims involved will be able to get help, and hopefully Josh's wife buys a clue and takes their children away from him.
I'd say most sane people would appreciate a family's right to privacy on a delicate matter that was handled years ago. Since the "victims" themselves are very upset with having to relive this all over again I'd say their opinion on this matter trumps yours and everyone else who has an ax to grind regarding this family.
Most sane people don't subject their children to living out their lives on a reality show. Unless it's Roman Polanski, right? The Flashy doth protest too much, methinks.
On the one hand, I tend to agree. On the other, part of me wonders if any of those kids are continuing to be "handled" by their big brother
Were the victims ever given counseling, or since their clothes were too revealing or enticing did they have to pray for forgiveness? Because I can't recall seeing or reading about the girls getting any counseling over being molested.
I think the idea the Duggars have about raising their kids apart from the rest of the world is stupid anyway. ]] I've never cared for Christians who wanted to do this. Yeah, the world often sucks and is often at odds morally to Christian beliefs. But a Christian should not be so afraid of it that they try to separate themselves. They should look on it as a challenge and an opportunity to try to change the world to align with their beliefs.
Agreed -- mostly. We shouldn't try to change the world to align to our beliefs. That's bad all around. However, if someone leads a life that is more moral or upstanding or however you want to call it, they should do so and if others like what they see, go from there. Living by example is a far better choice than making people live to your standards; when you do, it's inevitable that you'll be caught in a hypocritical position.
The Duggars "allowed" it? As in, they rolled out a red carpet leading to the sisters' bedrooms and told Josh "dive in, big guy!" My understanding of the situation is that the parents took steps to try and prevent it from happening again. They removed him from the home for a period of time. They placed locks on the girls' bedroom doors. They took him to the police and had him speak to an officer. And apparently, the behavior did stop and wasn't repeated past the age of 14. Right, hence the liberal media feeding frenzy. Thank you for proving my point. Liberals and atheists and other assorted anti-Christian scum have been gunning for this family ever since the TV show debuted. The hate intensified once the Duggars lent support to various politicians and causes. The filthy liberals, who have been all too willing to excuse Polanski's forcible rape of a minor because he was a big lefty Hollyweird director. Exactly what moral high ground do the liberals think they're occupying? Has there been any insinuation or report that the behavior occurred past the age of 14? Any accusation of improper behavior towards his own daughters? Is it possible that what upsets you more than anything is that the Duggar daughters don't appear emotionally & mentally devastated by their brother's actions? That there doesn't seem to be any wailing or gnashing of teeth on their part? They haven't flung themselves off a cliff yet? Is it possible that the hysterical attacks on their brother and their parents are MORE traumatizing to them than something that happened at age five that they may or may not have any clear memory of? Last Friday Bill Maher repeatedly called the Duggars "freaks." Does that include all the Duggar children? Even the little kids are "freaks?" Cause, I don't think they had much of a say about being conceived and born.
It's certainly not the example Christ set - he consorted with tax collectors, prostitutes, and various other undesirables and shunned the holier-than-thou Pharisees.
Not trying to edit point for point on this phone, but in summary: -No, it didn't stop after the first time, and the guy confessed on three separate occasions with the only response being from his parents and local police. It never stops after one, unless you're those rare ones that make the effort to not molest at all. Like someone else said earlier trying to force morality on folks inevitably leads to being a hypocrite. That's exactly what happened here after trying to gay bash. I feel bad for the girls, but I'm not sitting shiva over the parents being embarrassed. -Fuck Hollywood liberals. They're hypocrites too, but they've got a higher rate of turning on known kiddy diddlers than any given religious organization, even with Team Roman bringing down the average. At any rate, the only person coming close to supporting him here was 14th Doc and he's still taking that heat seven years later. -Just because you don't moan and wail about a traumatic event does not always mean it's done and moved past, as a psychiatrist like yourself ought to know and what even the biggest quack degree course would say. If they've found peace, I'm sincerely glad. But I will ever support parents that teach that there is any instance that a woman is responsible for being forced into anything sexual. To paraphrase Diacanu: Fuck Jim Bob and Michelle -Bill Maher doesn't speak for me. Keep on dick riding, bro.
Sure there is. So the fuck what? Josh Duggar did "Agenda!" for a living. His mom did "Agenda!" when she lied out her ass on that robocall. So yeah - you dish out Agenda, shut the fuck up and take some agenda backatcha. Also, BTW, apparently is was fairly well known around the town that there was a story like this to be told - they just pissed off the wrong one. http://www.chicagotribune.com/enter...uggar-story-came-to-light-20150608-story.html
Depends on if you buy their idea of "handled" (of course, at least one of them is an expert on handling things - amirite?)
and no, re Flashy's last, no one was "out to get them" when they were just those reality show kooks on TLC" and nothing more. People with agendas have bigger fish to fry. The story floated around for over a decade (there's a message board out there that was discussing it openly online in 2007 as a rumor in the area and even mentioned the canceled Oprah appearance as connected) Hell, they even pretty much ignored them after Josh hooked up with the Pharisees and profiteers at FRC. When they became a target is when they slandered innocents in the pursuit of political goals. They arrogantly thought their own lies (the one about being the best family ever while having actually had to deal with at least a little of the same dirt all other families experience) were so buried they could lie on other innocent people with no repercussions The thing is those, once you get into that arena, you volunteer for return fire. If they REALLY thought it was a horrible thing for their daughters to ed up exposed as victims, they would have done the Christian thing and not start lying on people and they would still have their privacy and their happy little TV show.
Well, no. I'd rather you didn't. I had heard of these people. They're mainly famous in Arkansas for having an assload of kids. That's it. Until this story broke, I didn't even know this show existed. What I find more interesting is Mike Huckabee's endorsement of their fundie Christian lifestyle until TSHTF and then he dropped them like a hot rock.
The interesting part is that The Huckster continued defending the Duggars after the and he caught the blowback right in his face. The Huckster spent a good couple of weeks aggressively supporting child molestation and the covering up of child molestation before giving up on that cause.
In related news, TLC has revamped 19 Kids and Counting in regards to the molestation announcement. TLC has changed the opening credits to better fit the recent news of the molestation that occurred when Josh Duggar was a teen. The show will now use the following for it's opening theme.
