From a woman's perspective - a lot was really spot on. Women aren't like men in that they jump right up and say "I did this!" I loved that both started to say "Let's do this!" then apologized for talk over each other - typical women stuff. I love that they are not all tall, blonde, blue-eyed, hotties. Not really sure about ghosts possessing people and I never got into slapstick humor, so the whole slapping to get the ghost out was not funny to me. I suppose that's one for the guys to laugh at.
Nah. I laughed at the mutual apologies, and was incredibly bored by the slapping. It takes a lot of talent to make a 15 second scene seem interminably boring, but they managed.
I was a rabid fan of both films, the cartoon, all of it. So, I'm jazzed just to have that universe back, even if it's an Earth-2 version.
It looked better than I had anticipated. I'd say I'm mildly more interested in seeing it now. @BeamMe: I "agreed" with both Paladin and Jenee. Don't mistake that for 100%. I'd say 60% with Paladin, 80% with Jenee.
I couldn't help it, I laughed my ass off when Leslie screams and says "the devil is a liar!" I love what I've seen so far, and I'm hoping it will end up being great.
Not really. A lot of guys find that level of humor amusing. A lot of women don't. Some men don't find that level of humor amusing, some women do. It's a stereo type, sure. But .., I wouldn't call it vulgar. just a broad generalization.
And an offensive one, with the implication that most men like low brow slapstick humour. I find that a really quite disgusting attitude, particularly as I personally see no humour whatsoever in that sort of thing. Congratulations on being a sexist.
It's not sexist. It's a broad generalization. How many men do you know have seen Dumb and Dumber? How many women? How many men do you know like the Three Stooges? How many women? Men and women are different. There are many things common with men and many things common with women. It's not sexist to notice those things, it's one of those things that help us navigate and interact with strangers until we get to know them.
I'm a big fan of slapstick in the same vein as Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin/Three Stooges/Abbot & Costello, and of course the more modern forms with the ZAZ films (especially Airplane!). This trailer delivers in the slapstick department, and I can't wait to see the film. Also, I have a huge crush on Kate McKinnon, so yeah.
Seconded! Word I'm hearing is, the marketing will push Wiig and McCarthy because they're the pre-established stars, but McKinnon steals the movie.
Eh. The music was cool. The other stuff not so much. I like Kate McKinnon's style of humor, but don't really care for the other three. I never could finish all of Bridesmaids. Wiig has had some great SNL moments but I don't think I could tolerate a whole movie of her.
ehhh..... meh.... There was nothing in that trailer that made me say I want to see this. This trailer had no energy. No edge to it. And the ghosts, in particular the first one we see, weren't impressive. This is 2016 and that's all you've got? Some fancy blue? I think this is going to be a big flop. Especially competing against Independence Day.
I did not know that. Usually I know these things, but I missed that. Ah well, I can still love her from afar.
Trailer looks dreadful. If they're using the best bits then that will be one of the worst movies ever.
I don't know, for it to be sexist, there would have to be a value judgment. I didn't see that in her post. She made an observation. What if I were to say that men tend to enjoy the Three Stooges far more than women do. It's an observation about different genders and how they react to a certain type of humor. It's not sexist, it's simply data. And to be honest, I'm more convinced by her comment that the gender reversal isn't a gimmick. It's an exercise in viewing the action through a different lens. That's pretty solid in my opinion. Now I could see the point that it was a gimmick if they were simply delivering the same lines, but the trailer demonstrates this is not the case.
I think you need to go find out what sexism is. She is offering up a male stereotype and advanced the notion that men enjoy low brow, slapstick humour. I you're cool with gender stereotypes then I can't say I'm impressed. Just because Jenee is one of your liberal allies, it doesn't mean she can't be sexist.....and considering how you're all too quick to lay into the likes of @Dinner and @gturner for their racism I find the fact that you will dance around this a little disappointing.
Where does she say that men enjoy low brow? Are you making the assumption that slapstick is low brow? It's not, so it's not any kind of slap at men if we happen to appreciate it more than women. Jenee and I disagree on plenty, that has nothing to do with it. I simply disagree that what she said was sexist. If it is, then there are a whole lot of things that we are going to have to stop saying. Would it be sexist to observe that men are more likely to like beer than women? That's the sort of statement she made. Not sexist.
That actually looks better than I had thought. Will definitely check it out when it hits home video or Netflix. No desire to pay $$$ to see it in the theatre.
