I would argue that the genre hasn't so much died out, as that we just kept following it forward in time. In the early to mid 20th century the Western was a genre that took place in a time within the living memory of some. A world recognizable yet so different to the modern one in many ways. You want a modern Western? Mad Men fills that same niche. A time of social conservatism where mens roles were well established but you also had a frontier of change laying ahead casting it's shadow over everything.
I saw on VH1 pop-up video David Bowie was a big fan of the Hamburglar and was going to name the song Robble Robble, but the producers didn't think it would sell, so they made him change it.
Well, I knew it would come to this eventually. Congratulations liberals, I hope you're reel proud of yourselves. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tv-land-pulls-dukes-hazzard-806265 They were good ol' boys, they never meant any harm.
Fucking shit... Federal Farmer beat me to it, but yep. The Dukes of Hazzard has been pulled. Fucking idiotic as hell. I do love this line though. There's a point where political correctness becomes retarded, and this went full retard.
It's an issue at the moment, and TV Land, sensibly, would rather not deal with the bullshit. Dollars to doughnuts, this is temporary, and once it blows over, this cheesey-ass compilation of all the worst cliches from Hal Needham movies will reappear on the TV Land schedule.
Hmm... I'm hearing something through the grapevine. Apparently, the SCV owned, supplied, and cared for the actual flags on the Confederate Memorial at the Alabama State Capitol. Also, it is technically a Class A Misdemeanor under Alabama law to alter or remove any part of a "memorial of the dead." The Governor's Office has refused to turn over the flags to the SCV, so the leader of the SCV camp responsible for them is going to seek warrants for Theft and Desecration in the Montgomery Circuit Court Office on Friday.
I always thought the rule was that if you cut down or captured a battle flag, it was yours to hang on your unit's wall as a trophy.
People forget another factor in televised westerns. Color television. I have a guide to Bonanza and it said the sole reason for Bonanza being made was to sell color televisions. Westerns with their heavy emphasis on outdoor scenes provided a good way to showcase color television.
Big news. TV Land is going to produce a spin-off called "The Dykes of Hazard." It will also explore the simmering relationship between Rosco P. Coaltrane and Enos.
I have read none of this thread anticipating idiocy. I will say I found this article on the origins and 20th century use of the flag intersting. http://www.salon.com/2015/07/02/the...acists_and_segregationists_made_it_their_own/
Our unit took a lot of souveniers from Iraq. The only rule was it can't go "boom!" or come from off a dead guy - yes, even if they were already dead when we took it. Fucking party-poopers!
