If the voters opt to keep a racist symbol as the flag to represent them, yep, they're racists and admittedly so, and that has nothing to do with whether or not they agree with tererun or anyone else.
Wow... it's been a while since you earned one of these. Seriously, discoverthenetworks.org? A website run by the David Horowitz Freedom Center? Couldn't ya find an even more biased site?
Or just maybe South Carolina residents don't agree that flag represents what YOU think it represents! There's a concept to wrap your mind around. Again, it's up to the South Carolina voters, is it not? No matter who decides it will be SC and not the federal government. If they have to stop flying it at their capital guarantee more private citizens will display the CBF on their own property, or their license plates. BTW many other states offer rebel flag license plate options too.
Again, that is not what I said, but keep on pretending it was. It is the same old bullshit we always see from the guntards. They cannot make at good argument against regulation so they try to change the argument to something they wish it was. It is a lie, you are dishonest in the discussion, and this is why you are one of the people who we should keep from having guns.
yes, there are many racist voters in south carolina. I can personally vouch for their existence. Again it has nothing to do with not agreeing with dems or myself, it is the fact that they are openly racist just like that kid who shot up the church. You do share their opinion, and you are a fucking racist. I do not have to play your little game of pretend you are not a racist because you have a black friend. You can have a black friend and still be racist. If you do not like it you can stop being racist any time you wish to, but you do not care to, and I do not care to play pretend with you so I don't hurt your racist feelings.
Well having a secret security clearance, a clean-as-a-whistle police record, and years of weapons training under my belt pretty much says I am the very type of person who SHOULD own a gun. Thankfully The State Of Georgia and The United States Of America know me better than you do...or think you do.
You can say what you want, but the meaning is in how it is perceived by the observer. That means if you look like a POS racist because your adorn yourself with racist symbols you are not only promoting those signals, but you will be perceived as a racist. You do not get to say what other people think, and I think right there is the problem. You want to tell everyone how to think, and you can't. You are not god. You do not control the world. You do not make up how society sees you. Therefor if you do not want to be perceived as racist you should stop waving the southern swastika. No one cares about your excuse.
"You do not get to say what other people think, and I think right there is the problem. You want to tell everyone how to think, and you can't. You are not god. You do not control the world. You do not make up how society sees you."
Since when are Americans outsiders in their own country? Or is it still 1864 down there? Never mind, I know the answer; I visit there once a year.
I'll repeat the question I always argued with Muad - why is there "pride" in the symbol of a failed revolution, which was started, in part, to save slavery?
Well there is a fairly well known tradition of memorializing failed battles or other efforts. Technically the Alamo was a defeat yet it is far more well known than the subsequent crushing defeat of the Mexicans at San Jacinto. Likewise, don't the Serbians heavily memorialize a defeat at something called the Field of Black Birds?
But I thought of something else. In the effort at national reconcilliation after the U.S. Civil War, there was a very unspoken, unofficial desire by the south with the aquiesence of the north to redefine the Civil War as a battle over states rights and not over slavery. To romanticize the "lost cause".
Because banning a symbol has pretty much fuck all effect on those who misuse it. You ban a flag, and what? Some vexillological voodoo shit happens? All the racists and neo-nazis come running out of their homes, hug the nearest black guy out of harmonious love, fall to their knees and cast their arms out wide screeching they've been bind but now they see? Or do they retain the symbolism, which is now officially known as a Bad Thing and will be pretty much permanently attached to the nutters from now on? Banning symbols is for reasons of propaganda and fuzzy feelings, none of which actually tackle things like racism.
I've stopped bothering presenting reasonable arguments why one particular area of rights needs to be justified. Heritage, rebellious nature, meh whatever. Say I want to fly any kind of flag for no reason whatsoever. Say I want to buy a shiny pistol like I saw in a cowboy movie and not have to keep it at the police station. Say I want to marry a dude and adopt a kid that hasn't had parents in years. Say I want to protest a war within a 10 mile radius of a meeting of politicians. Tell ME why YOU think I shouldn't be able to do any or all of that. Because whenever I see these articles and arguments, I've noticed the talk is about the abstract instead of the individual.
You are putting the blame in the wrong place. You use pathetic logic and rationalization therefor everything you say is simple bigotry and trash. You just want people to run around in circles trying to argue against already defeated arguments because you have nothing new to offer. You are a racist because you say racist things and do racist things. Stop doing and saying racist things and you will discontinue being a racist, but you will never change your past racism.
You can fly any kind of a flag you want for no reason whatsoever. And if other people find it offensive, or stupid, or racist, they can say so. Ya wanna shiny pistol like one in the movies, ya can have it. Doesn't necessarily mean that you won't have to register it, or be subject to regulations, but pretty much no one here is saying you can't. Ya want to marry a dude and adopt a kid that hasn't had parents in years? Hey, it's not those of us on the left that are stopping you. We lefties say "Go for it Dude". Ya want to protest a war within a 10 mile radius of a meeting of politicians? Knock yourself out. Ya won't get any argument from me. Why would we wanna do that? You clearly aren't paying attention then.
either you need to be watched so you do not accidentally kill yourself with a roll of toilet paper, or you can figure out how to not be a racist just like we all did. Do you really want to tell us all that you are that fucking stupid you cannot figure out how to not be racist? It is not much more complicated than putting the round peg in the round hole, but if you are telling us you are that fucking stupid perhaps we need to send some people to help you before you hurt yourself.
For now. Very reasonable though personally I try not to get offended be petty shit. Why do you think I have to register it? Ok, but... I noticed how you went from "the left" to "just you" the very next line. I dunno. Maybe because it would put you or "you all" on the defensive? You think you get to cherry pick rights and take credit for liberty based on whether or not you or the group you apparently speak for agree with me. Very convenient.
For the same reason we register and plate automobiles and the like. Why do you think you shouldn't have to register it? I sure as shit didn't mean "just me". Frankly, I can't think of anyone on the left who'd have a problem with it, as we protest too. We on the left have fought for the right to protest events, while it's been you guys on the right who favored forcing us to protest elsewhere, in specially designated zones far from the event being protested. Why you'd think any of the examples you gave would "put you or "you all" on the defensive" is beyond me. It's pretty much what we on the left support. What orifice did you extract that from, and why. What have I 'cherry picked"? What liberty have you been denied?
