What a beautiful day to kick off some football!

Nice 36-17 blowout to start the repeat season. I thought the Packers were supposed to be contenders?

"Obviously, we were the more physical team today, offensively and defensively. I saw supposedly some of the best players in the league not want to tackle Marshawn Lynch," Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett said. "Of course, nobody is going to say nothing about that, but I seen a lot of guys whiff on tackles that should have been 2-yard gains and they're supposed to be the best."

I see we've still got our humbleness. :diacanu:

I've started that thread the past couple of years and thought I had done one this year, but I guess I forgot.

The Seahawks are the first NFC team with a real shot of repeating as Champions in the salary cap era. They're a very good football team.

In fact, I'd say that barring a major injury, they're the likely champs this season.

Nah. The Broncos are the more likely champ this season. The AFC sucks and if Peyton Manning doesn't have a coronary the Broncos are essentially guaranteed a bye; for those reasons the Broncos are far-and-away the most likely team to make it to the Super Bowl. The Seahawks are better than the Broncos, but they have a much more difficult road to victory.

Of course that road looks a little easier after tonight, but still not enough easier to make the Seahawks the favorites to win it all.

I think there is too much unpredictable about 16 games in the NFL. Injuries, will often remove a lock on winning a division, and we've all seen teams with a "lock" on the Superbowl lose on a final drive. Both the Seahawks and Broncos look good, but I doubt very much that we will see a Superbowl re-match.

I'd disagree with that - the Packers came from nowhere in 2010 to win. Then the next year they went 15-1 in the regular season. Everyone expected them to win the Super Bowl that year come playoff time - they were prohibitive favorites.

Then they dropped their home opener in the divisional round.

The Seahawks looked great yesterday, and they've got one of the best home field advantages ever. And that defense is phenomonal.

However, its a LONG season. We've seen great teams fade down the stretch. I'd say they are favorites to win the SB this season, but honestly I'd put my money on the field vs them. Its just incredibly hard to do it back to back years these days.

And the Packers didn't field their best possible team yesterday. Their OC was out, as was their best run stuffing DT, BJ Raji. Then they lost their RT and TE. So half their Oline was out by the end of the 1st quarter.

So I expect the Hawks to win a lot of games this year, and with SF losing so many defensive players to stupidity and injury they are defintiely the favorites to win the West. But you still need a lot of thing bounce right to win a super bowl any year, and doing it twice in a row requires some luck.

Something I saw on ESPN comments:

Seattle not only has the best record in the league, but is no. 1 in every positive defensive AND offensive stat. Domination!

This is an OT tangent, but I was wondering if Seattle would be given another NBA team? Whether by expansion or relocation!

The Brewers had been the Seattle Pilots back in '69, before moving to Old Milwaukee in '70!

Back on topic, had anyone here ever go to any Seahawk games in The Kingdome back in the day?

That article is noteworthy for explicitly pointing out that soccer is not a major league sport. :nana:

As a Rams fan I'd just like to say: OW. OW. OW. OW.

Sunday has become known as 'Angry Sunday' at the Demiurge household.

I think I'll spare myself some depression and organize a game day instead.

A Cowboys fan friend of mine gets mad at the team and goes outside to work in his yard.

    His hashtag is #mowangry.

He lives in a different city, but I'm guessing his yard is immaculate by late December.

    Yahhhhh......

Dolphins didn't look like total losers. Actually won against Brady!! Who looked pissed off at the end of the game.

I know it's only the first game but after last season and all the other crap I was ready for 0-16.

The Pats neglected to send an NFL ready offensive line to the game. Easy to see why Brady was pissed.

The New England line may not have had its best day, but it was an NFL caliber line, just not a very good one. 6 QB hits in 60 dropbacks isn't great, but it's not terrible either. It's in the range of results expected from an NFL line, and could even just be a good line having an unlucky couple of downs.

Compare, on the other hand, the Washington O-line. 14 QB hits in 40 or so dropbacks. Griffin will be an old man by the end of this season, and within a year or two he'll be talked about in the same way people talk about Mark Sanchez.

I am going to sound like a Brady fan boy, but the number of hits was lower than the line might have allowed with somebody else. He's not much of a scrambler, but he can read the protection and gets rid of the ball at the first sign of trouble. There's getting hit, then there's rushed throws, neither of which speak well for the big guys down in front.

Where have these Jets been all my life? I can't believe they're destroying Green Bay in Green Bay. Did someone slip LSD in my coffee?

    Awaiting imminent disaster.

edit: That's more like it. Still leading, but playing like the Jets.

Cough up the 18 point lead then self-immolate with penalties and get their best defender tossed out of the game.

That's more like it! These are my Jets after all.

Only one of those Cardinals wins was against an NFL team. The Giants would have difficulty in a pick up game.

And the Jets have the tying TD taken off the board because the officials screwed up and illegally called a timeout. Turnover on downs, game over. Disaster complete.
