I'm looking forward to this movie, especially because Earth won't be the main focus of the plot. Also, Dayton disliking it so intensely already will make watching it all the more enjoyable.

Even if you don't like her music, the truth is that snagging her for the soundtrack is a bit of a coup for Star Trek. Her name, alone, will attract plenty of casual movie-goers, and that's something CBS/Paramount really wants for this film.

Nope. I'm not sure what species he's supposed to be, but it's not Jem'Hadar. I think Simon Pegg mentioned the species, but I don't recall the name.

People will see a pop star they like on the soundtrack, and will see the trailer. Combine that soundtrack with the visuals, and people will be curious enough to see it.
