Hopefully they're willing to give an Enterprise that looks closer to TOS Enterprise. I'm also optimistic because this takes places on another planet and in deep space. Also, we are getting new aliens. Bones and Spock together. The crew is separated like in TOS. Characters like Sulu and Uhura working together. It seems like Kirk will be with the chick which is very much like TOS. The crew is captured and have to find a way off the planet, also like TOS. A lot of the ideas I threw out there for a new movie have shown up in this trailer. That doesn't mean it won't suck, but so far, it looks more like Star Trek to me than the last two movies.

Hopefully not, because this isn't the 1960s and because a ship that looks like a tea saucer glued to dildos and popsicle sticks would look terrible and out of place.

    :rotfl:

Arguing about the look of the nacelles is about as fanboy nitpicky as you can get, and I guarantee you that TPB aren't going pay one iota of attention to that kind of stupidity.

The best part is that the new Enterprise that will for sure be seen at the end of the movie will be even more nuTrek than the previous iteration.

I'm sure Gabe would be flattered. ;)

As for all the discussion about the trailer, I truly don't understand how anyone is surprised given the statement from Paramount earlier this year that they wanted more of a Guardians of the Galaxy feel.

Why do you say that? Are you suggesting that the look and setting of a movie doesn't matter?
nd I guarantee you that TPB aren't going pay one iota of attention to that kind of stupidity.
Perhaps that is a reason that the nuTrek movies are underperforming

 This is why people can't take you seriously. Both movies grossed over $220 million domestically, that is the opposite of under performing.

Paramount want the franchise to make Marvel movie money. They have high expectations.

The first two made $386 million and $467 million... underperforming my ass.

Yes, and I'm sure it would clear $2 billion at the box office if the Enterprise had the same shitty design as it did in the '60s. When people go to the movies, that's what they pay attention to: what the vehicle engines look like.

Having watched the trailer, I'm amused that I was all ready to deadpan snark about how little anyone in the audience cares about this Enterprise being destroyed . . . and they didn't even try to make a big deal out of it in the trailer.

It says BEYOND, it has a forest in it, I can imagine a much better movie from there than they're likely to release.

You would be surprised about what people fine important.

IIRC there was a successful television show that damn near tanked when in the hiatus the star cut her hair short.

Why was the Enterprise episode featuring the original Constitution class ship "U.S.S. Defiant" (from The Tholian Web) one of the most popular episodes?

Why weren't fans carping "ooohhh, look how bad that 1960s era design interior and exterior look"

I thought it held up extremely well over 30 years later. The design still works, even the interior still held up well.

    Agreed. Fully agreed.

As far as the exterior, it is all about the favorable viewing angles. Each ship design has certain angles that it looks best from onscreen.

Hell, arguably the Excelsior class is the ship design in Trek that objectively looks the worst. But there are still some viewing angles where it works just fine. Mainly forward.

Are you seriously claiming an Enterprise episode was one of the most popular episodes of Star Trek?

I thought he was talking about the TOS episode "Tholian Web", because my mind didn't connect "popular" with "Enterprise episode" and I didn't make it through season 2.

oh I imagine you'll hear it for like, 10 seconds or so, basically the action-film equivilant of the Shat being a collector of antiques. But not in any way that matters to the story.
