I actually liked season two.

For those of you who haven't read the most excellent comic books that the television show is based on, you need to understand that The Walking Dead is more about character interactions than zombies. In fact, most of the threats in the comic books come not from zombies but from other living human beings.

Season two was completely consistent with Kirkman's vision.

Shame they can't do anything like that in the show given that the production team have said The Walking Dead is set in a universe that had no zombie fiction.

Another great opening, I love how the entire group is operating as a team while the prisoners are standing there with their thumbs up their asses. They've really come a long way, they couldn't have gotten through winter behaving as they were.

Loving this season so far, the writers are really bringing the shit!

I was watching that scene play out and as soon as he hammered Tiny I'm thinking "there's NO WAY this guy doesn't eat machete or arrow in the next five minutes"

All in all, this might have been my favorite ep so far - the whole business of chasing the other guy through the prison i'm thinking "let him go - he will fuck up before sunset" and seconds later, he did!

It's gotten so much better. These last two episodes were better than most of Season 1 and all of Season 2. It's good to see Rick finally man-up and be a badass.

I agree it's getting better, but I thought S1 and S2 were pretty damned good.

Finally caught up and saw all the episodes.

They were all great.

First one reminded me of 33 from BSG in terms of pace. I did find it humorous that Rick when he was splitting up the group at the prison he told Carol she was covering him because she was a good shot and they didn't have ammo to waste but then they showed EVERYONE shooting and taking down targets like experts.

Second one was good too. Poor Tiny. Big man couldn't hack a Zombie and got killed for it. And there was something interesting they mentioned.... it was about ten months those prisoners had been locked up in the cafeteria which means that prison held out a lot longer (about a year) because according to season 1 and 2 it's been about a year and a half already. If I was the warden those prisoners would have been locked down 24-7.

Zombie Riot Gear! That was awesome and hilarious. Zombies can't eat people because they are too dumb to take their helmets off and the people were just beating on them until they finally figured out to go under the helmet. And Zombie Gas Mask Guard?

They really condensed the prison part of the comic book.

The Governor was cool. You can just feel the vibe off him that he is creepy and evil. And the end even though I knew what was coming was spectacular. That is one of the creepiest scenes ever from any TV show IMHO.

And I liked Merle's sword hand.

Somehow I think Merle will have a Darth Vader moment and switch sides resulting in his death.

As for next episode I've not read any spoilers but my speculation:

I was wondering if some of those severed heads weren't members of the governor's family, that he was hoping might still have something of the original person in them. We've seen severed heads twitch before in this show, right?

Nope. He even put the two from Michonne in them.

In the comic books I don't remember them explaining why he did it.

I'm hoping they show what they showed in the comic book regarding his family. They never showed his wife but his daughter. That would be awesome.

And heads continue to be alive until the brain is smashed.

In the comics, he said something like "57 Channels of Entertainment!"

I really liked this take on the Governor, IIRC the comic book character was more of a straight up crazy, where this one is seemingly normal with a maniacal dark side. I don't remember the small town being so idyllic in the comic, so this appears to create much more dramatic potential.

The impression I got was that the Governor had lost his wife and daughter (hence the picture). I might've thought that putting the zombie heads alive in the tanks was his way of sending them to hell but then...

Great show that continues to be engaging. Looking forward to more!

P.S. I'm going to change the title of the thread to "AMC Walking Dead Season 3"...if any objections, let me know.
