So it was 4 days of this: The public support is heart-warming... Some one one of my Aunts knew was on the plane and one of my co-workers was watching Wednesday and discoverd a second-cousin was on-board... So 2 people i know had some-one they knew on that plane...
Update on this, the report from the investigation is out. Main points of the report: the airliner was hit by a Russian-made Buk missile, which detonated just above and in front of the cockpit, showering the fuselage with shrapnel. The cockpit took most of the hit, killing the flight crew instantly. The remainder ripped a hole in the fuselage on one side. The plane went down tail-first, tumbling. Passengers could have remained conscious for 1.5 minutes. Missile was fired from within Eastern Ukraine. No judgement on the perpetrators but the report highlights that that area was known to be heavily occupied by pro-Russian separatists at the time. Nothing we didn't really suspect. Presence of the plane in the warzone was also queried but it appears it wasn't alone - over 150 civil aircraft were in that area in the timeframe, with 3 other planes in the airspace at the exact same time as the downed airliner.
