Saddam Hussein was directly responsible for nearly 2 million people. I can post a link if you like.

and I've said nothing to admonish the British.

I fully supported them in the Falklands and I happily thank them for all their assistance over the years including Libya-1986, Bosnia/Kosovo, Iraq 1991, Iraq 2003 and countless other times.

You do realise that it was the colonial minded Great Powers using Africa, India, China, and the Middle East as their personal playgrounds that have caused most of the World's problems today, don't you?

We had this conversation the other day. You put forward the argument and you got this post in response. A post you ran away from like the little coward you are. If you answer it comprehensively then maybe I'll be interested in your broken record nonsense. But I don't suppose you will, since you've proved unable to, despite repeated requests.

Didn't say you had......although I do recall your previous assertion to @RickDeckard that the British and Europeans are second class people, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear you doing so at some point.

Anyhow, I'm off back to bed. I was only up in the first place thanks to a thunder storm.

You mean the colonial powers of yesteryear made up of people who are long dead?

    Ok.

I think you're being sarcastic but I've seen this mentioned a lot even in the news about the FAA and prohibiting civilian flights so I'm just going to toss this out there.....

The FAA has no jurisdiction over Malaysian Airlines.

Yup, those are the ones, though I dare say some of those responsible for the middle eastern clusterfuck in 48, and the debacle known as Suez are still alive.

Do you feel guilty indignation every time you order a curry?

You seem under the false impression that I am disputing your 2 million figure. I am not, and never did. What was it you just said in the greatest hits thread about being able to read, comparing me to one of your students (which is actually a compliment since most are probably more intelligent than you)? :rotfl:

Go read the post I linked to. Saddam's death toll was never the argument. Either have the balls respond to that post in detail or shut the hell up.

If you're willing to acknowledge that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the deaths of many times more Iraqis than the U.S. and its allies then I'm fine with that.

No, why should I feel the guilt of a dead generation?

Besides, what is your argument anyhow? That my eating of a curry signifies that I support my dead ancestors' colonialism, therefore I am comparable to Dayton's view that civilian deaths are ok if American interests are served? Brilliant.

I think the South Asain community is doing a lot better in the Britain of my generation that we are in the India of today. Forgive me if I don't cry with guilt the next time I feast on an onion bhaji. :rotfl:

No, I asked if you felt guilt combined with indignation as you did so.

And I think that the repercussions of British interventionism are still being felt today. You cannot wash your hands by saying 'before my time'.

Who cares? We had no business, and just as importantly, no need to go into Iraq. The DOD sure as hell saw no point in going there for our 'war on terror' Containment was working, Iraqi forces where degraded by 90% from GWI, WMD's was a lie, and, oh yeah, Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11.

Oh yes I absolutely can, and I will. I only share responsibility for the society in which I have lived as an adult and my impact in it through my thoughts and actions as a citizen and a voter.

Saying I should feel personal guilt over the actions of the Empire in centuries past because I share a nationality is as preposterous as saying Italians should feel guilt over the Roman sacking of Carthage.

Most wars are based on lies El Chup. Perhaps you didn't know but FDR continually lied (sometimes we like to say 'misrepresented') to induce the U.S. to support the British more and more in WW2.

In fact, it is certain that if the Japanese had not bombed Pearl Harbor, the U.S. would've eventually joined the war against the Germans anyway with FDRs misrepresentations about Germany targeting American shipping being a key part of that.

And perhaps you should make note of the Mexican War. Or the Spanish-American War.

Now, I would argue that the Mexican War was far from a noble purpose but I think even you would admit WW2 was and I believe the Spanish American War was though the U.S. had lots of purely self serving motives as well.

And you can think of people lives as being of lesser importance yet still care about them and not want them to come to harm.

I care about my immediate family first and foremost. If I had to sacrifice a stranger to save the lives of people in my immediate family I would do it.

But that doesn't mean I want some strangers to suffer or die absent that extraordinary circumstance. In fact, I'm very much against things like that happening to anyone aside from the vilest of evil sorts.

Does that answer any of your questions?

    What makes you think that?

If our novelty (black) President was worth anything then we would be bombing Russia by now.
Of course I would have no problem with Obama bending the truth to make people believe that Putin ordered this. It is about time that we had a proper war after all of the pussyfooting in Iraq.

Before anyone mentions it the lives lost are of lesser importance than the interest of the United States. I will even do my bit by telling my students to enlist again and by explaining to them the value of a strong military in my history class.

It does not. It simply makes discussions less coherent.

Besides I have no wish to ignore Dayton, as I might John Castle, but I do have a desire to rebuke him when he acts like a gobshite.

Bombing Russia would be all kinds of stupid. The Russian people have done nothing to us and you can't bomb a country just because their leader is being an asshole. Putin may have miscalculated in the Crimea but he's far too smart to order a commercial airliner shot down. What the fuck would he gain from that?

It sounds like what happened is the equivalent of those National Guard weekend soldiers in First Blood.

But I agree that a "dislike" button would be great. Kind like what you see in the comments section of many sites where each posts has #'s of thumbs up and down.

I agree with you, sans the West German part. I know that I always get a kick any time I decode the VIN on a German vehicle and it starts with a "W."

We should be able to start exporting natural gas to Europe in 2015. This is one of the reasons I'm holding long in companies like $SD.
