I've flown the route that the other Malaysian Airlines plane went missing on, and have also flown this route as well. Never even considered at the time that either of these routes could have had something like this happen. Makes me wonder who or what the passengers on those flights might have been or done.
All things considered - am I alone in thinking any investigation of the crash is a fucking joke? By now any important evidence is long, long gone. It will be all show and no go. Russia will fucking own The West over this. Nobody will do shit, because the evidence is gone. Lessons learned - don't fucking fly into a war zone unless you are prepared and able to bring the wrath of god with you.
Honestly there's not much to investigate as to why the plane fell out of the sky. It was shot down by a missile. No one at this point is even denying it. The important part is recovering the bodies.
There's still a massive amount that can be investigated. The wreckage could confirm what type of missile was used through damage patterns and chemical residues, the black box and cockpit instruments can let us know if the aircraft was doing anything expected or out of ordinary at the time. The level of damage could tell us if there was any chance for the aircraft to be recovered to perform an emergency landing (seems unlikely based on initial reports from photos of the wreckage, but always worth looking at)

So if this was just an accident, why did they try to cover it up/pass blame, and allow goons to bum-rush the crash site possibly destroying much needed evidence?
Seems US analysts have a pretty decent case file implicating the rebels. And now Ukraine officials are claiming that Russia itself shot down two fighter jets.
Because even if it was an accident, the pro Russian militias/Russian Army are still ultimately responsible. If I had to guess, I think one of the big things is that it was and has been actual Russian Army personnel operating SAMs for the rebels. The Russians are known for not infrequently operating relatively sophisticated equipment on behalf of the side they are supporting rather than let hastily trained undereducated locals half ass it. From fighters in the Korean War to SAM batteries in the Vietnam War, both revealed to later be Soviet/Russian military personnel.
Lots of commercial air traffic flies over dangerous places, Malaysia Airlines just drew the short straw.
Lots of other airlines had stopped flying over Ukraine when the fighting broke out, not waiting to see if any planes would be shot down. The FAA is now blocking flights to parts of Israel because of the mess in Gaza, even though the odds of a plane being hit by a missile are really low.
